encodeURIComponent escapes everything that isn't safe inside a single query value (including / ? & =). encodeURI keeps those characters so a full URL stays usable.
%20 is standard percent-encoding. + means a space only in HTML form data (application/x-www-form-urlencoded); the decoder handles both.
